Apparently unethical back room politics.
The original Goleta City rules stated that the Mayorship would occur in the order of the number of votes received in the original city hood election. This would mean that now (Sep 2004) councilwoman Jean Blois should be mayor pro tem, i.e. next in line to be Goleta mayor. When Wallis took office she promised to uphold the rules of our the new city hood.

So what happened?
Jonny Wallis, Cynthia Brock, and Jack Hawxhurst decided not to follow the rules (a promise broken) and played some quick back room politics to switch the order of mayorship. This was no ordinary back stabbing either, as Jonny Wallis voted for herself on this issue. Wallis should have recused herself given the conflict of interest of the vote. Apparently Hawxhurst freely admits this was done to boost Wallis numbers in the 2004 election.

Are these the kind of backstabbing ethics we want from council members who are making important decisions in Goleta?

Current radio ads have Wallis saying "I will keep my promises".
She did not keep this one - why will the future be different?

Udate Dec 2004
Apparently due to pressure from several sources the overwhelming number of votes for Jean Blois in the Nov election Jean Blois was voted Mayor of Goleta on Dec 6, 2004. People should be careful not to let this dissuade them from the above noted facts, as the actions clarify the nature of those involved. The vote also further solidifies the apparent do what we want as long as no one complains mentality of those involved.
