Reckless council decision regarding Bishop Ranch could spell Disaster for Goleta

In a recent vote of the Goleta City Council/Planning Agency, members Wallis, Hawkhurst, Brock, and Connell (member Blois abstained), voted to preserve Bishop Ranch for agricultural uses only. This obvious attempt by the council to send yet another message to the development community that there will be no building in the new City of Goleta may have backfired.

By removing any hope that the property might be discussed, by the public during the general plan process, the property owner may be forced to seek alternatives elsewhere. Currently UCSB is looking for opportunities to find available land for building student and faculty housing in and around the Goleta Valley. If UCSB were to purchase Bishop Ranch the citizens of Goleta would have no control over what is built there. The property would be under the jurisdiction of the UC system. The UC system is not subject to abide by any of the City's rules and regulations.

What's the worst-case scenario for Bishop Ranch – six story dormitory housing and multi-level parking structures? This is very possible if our council doesn't see the error of their ways.

Furthermore, Cynthia Brock was quoted as saying that she "I don't think that (housing at Bishop Ranch) is what people had in mind when they voted for cityhood."

How would she know if she didn't ask the citizens of Goleta?
Yet another example of how time and again the city council seem to ignore Goleta citizens (whom they are supposed to serve) and do as they please, and 'tell citizens what they want'.

Yet again the Not-So Fabulous Four have let their blind ideology, short sightedness, and drunken power trip send our beloved city of Goleta farther down the road to ruin.
